A delicious return to the past. That was the definition given to the 100th edition of the “Supra Sumo of the 80’s” party by most of its participants. The event, which took place on august 8th at “Music Hall”, hosted a historical presentation of the North American group “Information Society” and had the DJ’s Roy and Goulart controlling the pick-ups.
The agitation of the approximately 1600 people present at the party could be noticed even before the opening of the night club, settled to 10 PM. A lot of fans of the band showed anxiety about the beginning of the concert and seized the waiting to remember “Insoc’s” history in Brazil, in the early 90’s.
Marcos Pereira, 32, a fan of Information Society since childhood, couldn’t hide the expectation to see a live presentation. “I will finally watch their concert. I didn’t have the chance when they came to Belo Horizonte for the first time”, says he.
According to DJ Roy, the presence of the band at the event is a great honor, something that he has always wanted. Roy, who has also been the party’s producer for five years, lists some songs of the group that, in his opinion, are unforgettable. “My favorites are What’s On Your Mind, Running Away e Seeds of Pain”
The promised setlist with the best of flash house and technopop from the 80’s and 90’s didn’t allow anyone to stay still. A remix of Michael Jackson’s video clips started some screaming and applauses on the dance floor.
By midnight, Paul Robb, Kurt Harland and James Cassidy, from the original formation of “Insoc”, came on stage, starting their 9th presentation in the country with the classical “Peace And Love, Inc.”. The band presented many songs from their newest album, “Synthesizer”, but hits such as “Think”, “How Long”, “What’s On Your Mind” and the ballads “Slipping Away” and “Repetition” were the ones that truly brought the fans to a frenzy state.
The concert also had his moments of fanatic devotion. Lara Zelnick, age 17, invaded the stage during the encore and made an improvised “duet” with Kurt Harland, while he sang the chorus of the song. With tears in her eyes, the fan from the city of Governador Valadares says the event was a dream come true “I have traveled by plane for six hours just to see them playing and singing”. I have no word to describe my happiness. I still don’t believe I was able to touch Kurt”, she says.
In Adilson Vieira’s opinion, 38 years old, the concert was marvelous. “It has been the first time watching a live presentation. They are modern and dynamic. I found the performance of the bass player, James Cassidy, sensational”
After approximately two hours of presentation, the staff from the “BH Eventos” website was allowed into the dressing room and had an exclusive interview with the keyboard player Paul Robb. According to him, the opportunity of playing in a place like Music Hall provided an “intimate atmosphere”, “It was like the old times, when we used to play in New York. We were close to the audience and felt a very good energy”, he explains
Visibly well-humored, the artist remembers some moments of their presentation at “Mineirinho” stadium in 1991 and confesses suprise with the audience number, the biggest of Information Society’s career. “It was our second time in Brazil. We expected a big crowd, but we didn’t have any idea that it would be the record of our musical career. It’s been our biggest concert so far”, confesses Robb.
Asked about the name of the band, he also makes his persona reflection about the contemporary world. “It is funny how “Information Society” is still a present name. When we were young, we read many books that talked about the future and thought a lot about this. Nowadays, we literally live in an information society”
On the 12th of August, next Wednesday, the group presents in São Paulo, On the 13th, it travels to Curitiba and returns to São Paulo on the 14th, for a concert in Ribeirão Preto.
